Happy Veterans Day Dad

For my Dad who served in Vietnam...

A Soldier's Lament
By Clem H. Block (1914-2004)
(My grandpa who served in World War II)

I don't want to be a soldier,
I don't want to fight another war,
I don't care to give my life blood

for the ballyhoo we've heard so many times before.

I don't care to be a hero,

Shoot and kill a human score,

Medals may be good for boy scouts,
But not for killing in a war.

Pittance pay for dirty fighting,

Munition makers get the loot,

Overtime for making bullets,

Pittance pay for those who shoot.

Politicians, Generals, listen,

Time grows shorter by the minute,

We may kill another million,

But our hearts and souls aren't in it.

Every life is precious somewhere,

Soldiers die as hours flee,

Death means more than just a headstone,

Time is fleeting- can't you see.

Draw a halt to all this bloodshed,

Call a truce no conference please,
Listen to the call of reason,
Bring us back from overseas.

Bring us back while we are living,

Too late now to help the dead,

Send us to our dearest loved ones,

For this now our prayers are said.

Love,
Jenny

Lots of photos, fewer words

Instead of blogging. Let's do photo review of life lately.

Trip to Los Angeles for the wedding of my friend Jess:

Babysitting...lots of babysitting:

My niece Molly who can now WALK!

Babysitter Nick wooing little Luke, our friends Krista + Jimmy's son.

I chased down this car... it's one of the Google Map cars that takes all those "Street View" images. I met the guy who was driving it... he showed me the computer and GPS in the trunk and told me he got the job when someone approached him in a cafe... he's a retired steel worker. Oh, and this is actually his house.

Nick's birthday! He'll get to use his new Wall-E sheets for only a short time (until June 19th to be exact)... but he still loved getting them for his bday!

Engagement Photos
(Thanks Krista, we love them! You made us look so lovely!)

Bought a WEDDING dress! This is all I can show for now :).

Just generally in love

Bail Out

Ok, so I'm kinda following the whole financial crisis bail out, but not really. I listen to NPR in the car sometimes to catch up on world news and seem to be tolerating all the news stories about the financial fiasco happening right now. I love how NPR tries to lighten things up after 20 minutes of stressful financial news with something like this story below. It tickled me pink. I scribbled down the poet speaking as I swearved all over the road yesterday afternoon so that I could share it with some of you.

Click here. Then click "Listen Now"... it's less than 5 minutes of clever goodness.

Wedding updates coming your way soon!
